Three Things Block a Drain Here

Three causes sit behind blocked drains here, and each needs a different fix:

Tree roots

Street trees near the old rail yards push roots into the clay sewers, and the mat only thickens until the line is properly cleared.

Cracked clay pipes

Vitrified clay under the earliest cottages cracks and slips out of alignment at each joint, catching debris with every flush.

Stormwater overload

Telarah sits on low river flats, and one big wet can push an older stormwater network past what it was built for.

The fourth cause is simpler: grease, wipes and hair in a kitchen or bathroom line. That clears fast, and the camera confirms nothing is damaged behind it.

Telarah Drain Services

Six drain services, six different jobs, each with its own page:

CCTV Drain Inspection

The camera goes down before tools do, so the blockage, the pipe material and any cracks are on screen first:

Drain Jetting

A water jet at high pressure strips grease, silt and root fibre off the walls, chemical-free:

Blocked Sewer

Waste rising through the floor waste or every drain gurgling at once points to the sewer line:

Stormwater Drains

Yard grates overflowing and water pooling against the slab on the flat blocks mean the stormwater line, not the sewer:

Pipe Relining

A cracked or root-riddled sewer can be lined from within, with the yard left intact:

Tree Root Removal

Roots cut out, the pipe checked for damage, relining on the table if the same joint keeps copping it:

Sewer or Stormwater: Which Line Is It?

One slow fixture

The clog is probably close to that fixture, and a short clear can fix it.

Several at once

Fixtures slowing together, a gurgle out of the floor waste or odours near the yard grates point further down the run.

Water rising outside

near a boundary is stormwater; waste coming up inside is sewer, and waste rising right now is an emergency plumber call. The camera settles it either way, and what the footage reveals is covered on the camera inspection page.

What Drives the Price of a Drain Clear?

What goes into a drain quote:

  • Where the blockage sits A clog at the boundary trap is a shorter job than one deep in the sewer run under the house.
  • The pipe material Earthenware and clay need more care than PVC, and that changes the method and the time.
  • What the footage shows Loose roots are a clear-out job; a broken or collapsed length turns the visit into a repair.
  • The hour A visit after dark is priced higher, and the number is given before anyone leaves.

The Ground Here Works the Drains Hard

Old pipes under old cottages

Drains for the first houses, built while Telarah was still Homeville, went in as earthenware early in the 1900s, and joints that old part and crumble. Vitrified clay from the same decades cracks and shifts out of line, and each gap is a ledge for debris and a way in for roots.

Rain that tests the low ground

Telarah is floodplain country, the area averages 856 mm of rain annually, and plenty of it lands in heavy Hunter Valley falls. A stormwater line that copes with a shower can back up in a real downpour, which is why stormwater drains work gets its own page.

Where a Drain Job Stops Being Ours

When we're not the right call. Beyond your boundary the sewer main is Hunter Water's asset, so a choke in it goes to their crews. If the camera puts the problem on their side, we give you their number, and a pipe that was never yours stays off your bill.

A pipe that has caved in cannot be jetted clear. That becomes a repair, and relining is one of the options to weigh up.

Before You Ring: Drain Questions

Do you camera-check a drain before and after clearing it?

Yes. Footage gets taken ahead of any clearing work and again once water runs freely, so both the cause and the pipe's condition end up documented. On the aged clay sewers through Telarah, that second look is the proof the fix actually held.

Can tree roots be kept out of an old clay sewer?

Clearing takes the root mat out, yet the open joint that let it in is still there. Relining puts a seamless pipe inside the old one and closes those joints. It is worth weighing up in the leafy streets by the old rail junction.

Whose job is a blockage in the main past my boundary?

Hunter Water's. If the camera shows the fault sits on their side, you get their contact number from us, and the fix is theirs to carry out, not yours to pay for.

Will a jetter crack old earthenware pipes?

No, because the pressure is chosen after the camera has shown the pipe. Brittle early-1900s earthenware gets a soft setting, and PVC can take a stronger one.
