Gas Leak Detection Telarah
Gas leak detection in Telarah is a licensed gas fitter hunting down escaping gas, fixing the failed pipe or joint, then pressure-testing the pipe before you cook again. If you can smell it now, clear the house, then call (02) 4915 2998 from outside. It is part of the gas fitting work we do as your plumber in Telarah.

Smell Gas? What Should You Do First?
Your own safety sits ahead of the repair. In order:
- Walk every person and animal out into the yard or street.
- Touch no light switch, power point or phone inside; a spark is the risk, so leave every switch as it is.
- Prop a door open only if you can reach it from outside, letting the rooms vent.
- Make the call from the footpath. A heavy smell, or anyone feeling dizzy, means the gas network's emergency number goes first and the repair call to us comes second.
A brief whiff as a burner lights is different from a smell that lingers by the meter or grows stronger indoors. The second kind is urgent, and the emergency plumber page explains how night calls run.

How Do We Find a Hidden Leak?
Gas leaks rarely announce themselves with a visible break. The method runs in steps:
- 1
Isolate and confirm
The supply is turned off at the meter, and the first question is which side of it the escape sits on.
- 2
Trace with detectors
A detector goes over each joint, elbow and union along every run out from the meter, under floors included.
- 3
Pressure-test the pipe
The line gets put under test pressure so even a weeping joint shows up.
- 4
Repair and retest
Whatever failed, a union or a length of pipe, is swapped out, and the full line is tested again before gas flows back in.
What Moves the Price of a Leak Repair?
We provide up-front, honest quotes that will always match the final price, should you decide to go ahead.
The price follows the pipe:
- Reach. A leaking union at the meter is out in the open; one under a cottage floor means crawling in or lifting boards.
- What the pipe is made from, because copper, galvanised and newer poly pipe each need their own fittings and method.
- Extent. When the joint that failed is one of many the same age, replacing a length can beat patching fittings one at a time.
- The hour. A call outside business hours is billed at our after-hours rate.

When We're Not the Right Call
A leak at the meter or on the street side of it is fixed by the gas network, and their emergency number is the call for it. From the meter outlet into the house, the pipe, the appliances and the pressure test are work we take on.
Quick Answers Before You Call
How do I know if my Telarah home has a gas leak?
The smell of rotten eggs, a hiss near an appliance or the meter, yellow flames on the cooktop, or unexplained headaches and dizziness indoors. Any of those means treating it as urgent: get everyone outside, leave switches alone, and ring for help.
Do you find leaks in older cottages with pipes under the floor?
Yes. Pre-war weatherboard cottages here can have gas pipe under raised timber floors, the hardest place to spot a slow leak. The detector works joint by joint along the run, so the fault is located before a single board is lifted.
Is gas leak repair work covered by a warranty?
Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. The repair is pressure-tested before we leave, and if a joint we fitted gives trouble inside that year, call us back to it.
What does gas leak detection cost in Telarah?
It costs nothing to get us out to your door (excluding after-hours). The price turns on how hard the leak is to reach and how much pipe needs replacing, and you agree to it before the repair begins.
Adding or swapping an appliance once the line tests clean? That is on the gas appliance installation page.
