Plumber working on a gas oven connection

Telarah Gas Fitting Services

Two gas jobs, two pages, each with its own process:

Gas Appliance Installation

New burners, heaters and outdoor setups hooked up, moved or switched off bottles, on a line sized for the load and signed off: gas appliance installation

Gas Leak Detection and Repair

A smell or a climbing bill traced with detectors, then repaired and pressure-tested on your side of the meter: gas leak detection

What Does a Gas Fitter Handle?

Any pipe carrying gas from the meter outlet to a burner, for example:

  • New lines to kitchens, outdoor BBQ setups and patio heaters
  • Appliance swaps where the old point sits in the wrong spot
  • Swapping bottled LPG for mains supply once the street has it
  • The gas line to a storage or instant hot water unit, with the units themselves on the hot water page

Every altered line needs a compliance certificate, whether it was lengthened, capped or moved, and gas work with no certificate can hold up a sale or a lease. Testing and certifying happen before we pack up, and both sit inside the quoted price.

How Do You Spot Line Trouble?

Yellow or dead burners

A cooktop that once burned blue and now burns orange is getting a poor mix, which can mean a blockage up the line.

A smell near the meter or under the floor

Do not touch switches. Open windows and doors and get everyone outside, then check the emergency plumber page for what counts as a right-now call.

A bill climbing with no new appliance

A slow leak on a buried line wastes gas quietly, and the leak detection service pinpoints it without tearing the yard apart.

An appliance that drops out mid-use

A continuous-flow heater starved of pressure will shut itself down, and the real fault is the undersized pipe feeding it, not the unit.

What Shapes a Gas Quote?

Your gas price comes down to:

  • Length of pipe As a BBQ at the back fence needs far more copper than a cooktop near the meter.
  • Access With a line threaded under an old cottage's raised floor taking longer than one clipped along a garage wall.
  • The appliance Because a pool heater or continuous-flow unit needs a heavier feed than a four-burner cooktop.
  • Timing Since after-dark visits carry the higher rate, and that cost is named before you commit.

Gas Lines Under Old Cottage Floors

The housing stock sets the gas work here

Telarah grew up around the railway under the name Homeville, so the first houses were weatherboard and fibro cottages, with brick veneer added through the post-war decades. Gas pipe beneath those floors ranges from recent copper to galvanised that predates the cooktop it supplies.

Winters here suit gas heating

Fog and chilly starts across the river flats make a flued gas heater worth having, and its feed is sized from the heater's own consumption figure before the connection is certified.

The flood reshaped part of the suburb

About 220 timber houses were relocated here after the 1955 flood, into what became known as Lionsville. A house that has been moved can sit on pipework of mixed age, so the existing line is tested before any new appliance goes on it.

Where the Gas Job Stops Being Ours

When we're not the right call: the meter itself and the main in the street are looked after by the gas network, and a smell right at the meter is theirs to attend first. An appliance that trips the power points to the circuit, which is a licensed electrician's job. Either way, you hear on the phone who to ring next.

Your Call, Step by Step

    Ring or send the form

Call (02) 4915 2998 or use the form to explain the fault. We ask enough to bring the right equipment the first time.

    Test, connect, certify

The existing line is pressure-tested, the connection is made, and the finished job is leak-tested and certified before the plumber packs up.

  4. 04

    Covered for a year

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. If something we did isn't right, ring the same number.

Gas Questions Before You Book

Does an old cottage here need new gas pipe for a modern cooktop?

Sometimes. A cottage from Telarah's railway years may still have galvanised or thin copper gas pipe, and a big modern burner can draw more than that pipe delivers. We test and measure the line while quoting, and you decide on any new run with the price in front of you.

Can you convert a home from bottles to natural gas?

Yes, if natural gas is available in your street. Once supply at the address is confirmed, the changeover is priced as one job: the bottles come off, the regulator changes, and the line is tested and certified on the mains.

Who fixes a gas smell at the meter?

The gas network looks after the meter and the supply on the street side of it, so ring their emergency number first. Once it is safe, anything leaking on the house side is ours to find and repair, as the gas leaks page explains.

Is the gas work covered by a warranty?

Every job carries our 365-day warranty on all work. It takes in the pipe we lay, the connection we make and the certificate we sign, and a problem with any of them inside the year brings us back.
